Lost sense of "engineering"

Anurag Bhatia
It’s late evening here in Radaur and I am sitting in my room with open door looking outside in dark. I wonder if darkness outside is more then darkness I see in our system. No, I am not referring to any routing glitch or bandwidth chock point but even more fundamental issue that is “Lost sense of Engineering” in current education age. It’s pretty hot weather out in my room. Here's what room thermometer says.

Midnight system screwup (and fix!)

I was just working (and playing music!) and realized that “Movie player” package given on default Ubuntu installation isn’t of much use. Decided to uninstall it, next needed arping for some test and installed it (via default debian repository). Something crazy happened here. I opened something on personal server and it gave DNS error. I shot couple of digs from terminal and all timed it. I was scared to hell thinking of DNS failure on personal domain which is very very unlikely since I am using multiple DNS providers and close to a dozen of servers serving DNS zone.

Moving on from Cloudaccess.net

Some important life changes… I am not with Cloudaccess.net anymore. It was very nice experience of setting up AS54456 from scratch along with design of anycasting DNS instances. Wishing Cloudaccess.net good luck for time ahead. I just started working with Packet Clearing House (PCH). Looking forward towards exciting time ahead! Interesting pages to checkout - Anycasting DNS for TLDs & Peering information. Thanks for reading.

Updates!

I am blogging after quite a few days. Spent bit of time at events like APRICOT 2012 - New Delhi, followed by (unexpected) college start (on time) with heavy fine! Overall time is moving fast. Last week TeamARIN posted a guest blog post from me on DNS in case of IPv6. Apart from that I was excited with small article from RIPE NCC about K-root server connectivity issue as reported by me on mailing list.

Frustration, frustration and frustration - Story of State Colleges in India

Today was our Summer Project viva day and overall it went good for me. Although I was suppose to give viva on Sat, but that just didn’t happened as I was kicked out and insulted from my respective teachers for “not wearing formal clothes”. That’s very sad. I am not taking it personally but I am just pointing out the level of education and overall mentality in state college education system.
